Frequently Asked Questions
How old does someone have to be to apply to be on Staff at Camp Harlow?
The minimum age is 13 by the end of June.
Is there a deadline in which the applications must be turned in by?
For those applying to serve during Spring Break, the deadline is February 15. For those applying for the summer, the deadline is March 15.
Do I need to fill out a separate Application if I want to serve at Spring Break and Summer?
No, the Application applies to both Spring Break and Summer.
If I have been on Staff before, do I still need to fill out an application for this year?
Yes. All returning staff must fill out an application for 2012. This Includes those of you that are thinking about only serving a week or two (such as Spring Break or High School Camp).
Should I send in my Reference Forms with my Application?
We prefer that those who fill out your Reference Forms send them to us directly, via mail, fax, or scanned copy through email.
Which Reference Forms are required to be sent in?
All three Reference Forms are required whether you are a New or Returning Applicant. Your application will not be submitted for review until we have received all three Reference Forms.
NOTE: Dave Mertz and Andrew Bullock cannot be References for you. We prefer that the Personal Adult Reference Form is filled out by someone at least a few years older than you that knows you well. However, do not have family members fill out this Reference Form for you.
How will I know you have received my application?
You should receive an e-mail from us within a week of turning in your Application. The e-mail will inform you if there is any paper work we still need from you before we review it. If you have not heard from us within a week, please contact Andrew.
When will I find out if I am accepted?
If you have applied to serve at the Spring Break Day Camp, applicants will receive notice of acceptance by March 1. For those of you applying only for the summer, you should receive notices from us by April 11 for Senior Counselors, April 18 for Counselors, and April 25 for CITS and CAPS.
NOTE: Turning in an application does not guarantee you will serve at Camp Harlow this Spring Break or Summer. We will have a lot of applicants for a limited amount of spots.
What if I am unable to attend training?
Training is required for all staff, new and returning. Please make every effort possible to attend training. However, if there is a school-related, family-related, church-related, or sports-related event that has been planned well in advance, we will make an exception with advanced notice upon the approval of the Camp Director. A make up session of training and/or a meeting with our Deans must be set up before you may be able to serve at Camp Harlow.
Will there be time allotted off for Father's Day on June 17?
Time off will be allotted for Father's Day. Training will resume at 6:00 pm on June 17. More details will be sent to you in May regarding Father's Day.
If I am planning on serving during Overnight Camps, when will I be arriving and leaving for each camp?
For most of the camps, Impact Team members are to report to camp at 1:30 pm and Counseling Staff is to report at 2:00. Staff will be able to depart camp at 5:00 pm or before if all of camp has been cleaned.
If you are Counseling Elementary Overnight Camp, you will stay on camp starting the day you arrive for training until 11:30 am on Saturday, June 23.
Will I be staying the night at camp during Training and Day Camps if I am accepted?
All staff (CITS and Older) will stay the nights at camp during Training, and Day Camps (including Spring Break). We will spend the evenings debriefing the day, spend time in worship and prayer, and spend time digging into the Word with our Discipleship Groups. Adults will be present on camp at all times.
Due to limited available cabin space, CAPS (Counselor Assistants that are 13-14 years of age will not be staying overnight during Training or Day Camps unless they live far outside the Eugene-Springfield area. More information about a typical day for a Counselor Assistant is on page 3 of the Counselor Assistant (CAP) Application.
